As always, at the end of the year, we reflect on how well or not we've done. And as always, our computers are churning away at the statistics. So without further ado, here's what we've seen for 2006:
Top 5 Most Popular Articles:
The only way of measuring this is by recording the number of people who have read a specific article directly, and not from the front page. This would be the case when you click on a link in a forum, email message, rss reader or anything that refers directly to that article. There is no way to measure the "real" number of people who have read an article, since most of you read it from the front page.
Pageviews/Readers/Countries
On average, there are about 1,500,000 pageviews per month, ie, the site is accessed 1,5 million times per month. Per month, on average, there are some 700,000 readers, with peaks going up to 3,000,000 readers (that was an exceptional month).
The top country, by far, is the USA, with 70% of the readers, followed by the UK, Germany, Canada and Australia. In total, there are readers from 50 countries !
Top 5 Referrers
A referrer is when you're on a site somewhere in Cyberland, and you see a link which you click on. If it brings you to this site, the original site you where on is recorded. That is a referrer.
Most referrers come from discussion forums. They can be general forums, or motorcycle specific ones. If a forum starts generating more than 5,000 referrals, it is moved to its own category.
The column on the right shows you how many websites are included.

Top 5 Searches
Everytime you perform a search on a search engine (like Google, Yahoo, etc), you're search is captured and stored. The search is then categorized, since most searches have many variations. E.g. you can be searching for a "Diesel Motorcycle", and enter searches for "Diesel Motorcycles", "Diesel Motorbikes", "Diesel Motorbike", "Diesel Biker", "Motorcycles that run on Diesel", "Diesel in a Motorcycle", "Will My Motorcycle Run On Diesel", etc, etc. You get the message. Sometimes you get some really strange search requests {link}.
In the example above, all the search terms will be categorized as "Diesel Motorcycle". If a search category become quite used, it can be split. The typical example would be for a motorcycle manufacturer. If suddenly there are a lot of searches for a specific motorcycle model, it will get its own category.

A total of 501 articles were filed during the year (of a total of 1491 since 4 years). 1,731 comments were generated by you this year.

SPAM
Yes, we do get that a lot, not that you'd notice. Everyday, we get about 3,000 comment spams (spam entered in the comment forms), about 300 referrer spams (linking to our site in hope that it'll show up on a published log) and about 300 email spams (again, per day). Thanks to the great software tool we're using, none of these spams are shown.
