Video: BMW F650GS Dakar Motorcycle vs BMW X5 Car

Here's an interesting video clip of the car TV show Fifth Gear Open link in a new window, racing two BMW vehicles. The motorcycle is the BMW F650GS motorcycle used by Charley Boorman when he tried to race in the Dakar race 2 years ago. It's driven by (my former off road instructor) Simon Pavey, who heads up the BMW Off Road Skills School Open link in a new window. Simon is a 6 x Dakar veteran, so you can assume that he knows his stuff.

His challenger is a BMW X5 car, used as support vehicle for Boorman in that ill-fated Dakar race. The car is customized to run fast in the rally, since they need to keep up with the motorcycles.

The race was not held in the desert but what seems to be in Wales. Enjoy
