TMW 3 wheeled Yamaha V-Max
Woow, you'd think this is the new, long awaited, Yamaha V-Max motorcycle. Yamaha wants to cash in on the growing popularity of the Piaggio MP3 scooter, so they're making a three wheeled version of the V-Max.....

....Well, it's not ... it's from USA based Tilting Motor Works (TMW) Open link in a new window, an engineering company hoping to commercialize safer and more reliable motorcycles based on a tilting three wheel design.

    Looks like a ruined motorcycle to me. Safer and more reliable exactly HOW? besides the UGLY part, which I can't even comment on, I'm at a loss for words...

    Tilting Motor Works Vmax

    The front wheel provides up to 80% of the stopping power for a motorcycle under a hard stop. I figured putting an additional wheel in the front would greatly increase a bikes stopping power. I also have dual Buell perimeter calipers with custom disc that are about 12" in diameter. The stopping power is awesome. I have also done away with the telescoping front forks so the bike does not dive under heavy braking as well. Since the front end is now attached low to the frame instead of just through the steering head, the bike does not want to a stoppie. It leaves more weight on the rear of the bike making the rear brake more effective. All this adds up to a bike that stops much better than a stock bike.

    A motorcycle with a single front wheel can lose traction when encountering a patch of gravel or oil in the road and the front end can wash out on the rider. Having an additional wheel in the front allows me to lose traction with one wheel and still maintain control.

    A bike that can stop quicker and handle low traction situations better is a safer bike.

    As far as the beauty of the machine .... all I can say is that it is a production prototype and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Bob, I wouldn't take too much notice on some negative comments. The Piaggio MP3 was shot down in flames by public and press, but it outsells any scooter in the market in Europe....

    Bob, Is the suspension set up to hold an upright position on it's own at stoplights and such? Just curious if this could benefit someone handicapped so they could ride. Great engineering work! Beautiful in it's own way
